Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards 2007
Veteran Women – Pauline Davis
BADMINTON world champion Pauline Davis picked up the veteran ladies title.
Davis, who is 57 and lives in Silchester, won a total of three medals at the World Badminton Championships, which took place in Taiwan - winning gold in the over-55 ladies singles, silver in the over-55 ladies doubles and bronze in the over-50 mixed doubles.
She also won the national over-55 ladies doubles title, the All England over-55 ladies doubles and represented England in international fixtures.
Davis said: "I had a great year in 2007, winning the world championships, and getting the award was a nice way to cap it off."
Davis beat off the challenge of powerlifter and two-time veteran women's winner Jean Maton, who came third in the World Masters last year.
"I was especially pleased to win because the other lady in this category had won the previous two years," Davis said.
