New opening bowler proves an instant hit
COUNTY Division 3 leaders East Tytherley put visiting Sarisbury Athletic II in on a
damp wicket.
Opening bowler Mike Peace failed a late fitness test with a side strain but W Edwards (1 for 33) and new opening partner B Pearce (3 for 43) picked up wickets at regular intervals.
The only batsman to offer resistance was S Osgood (33) but, with a superb tactical change from Edwards and the right angle movement of seamer O Jones (1 for 24) he was out without too much damage.
The tail was gradually dismantled by another outstanding performance from R Kersey (4 for 23).
Tytherley started with intent knowing rain was on its way. M Braund (20) and C Smith (40) laid the foundations for a season's eighth consecutive win.
Sarisbury picked up five wickets but with the timing of G Harris (30) and the flawless technique of J Drake (39), kept Tytherley ahead of the run rate.
As the rain began, Kersey (14no) and man-of-the-match Edwards (20no) knocked off the last few runs in the 32nd over.
Tytherley travel to South Wilts next week and it will be interesting to see if Peace regains his place.
