Lions get shirty
Andover's warm up games continue tomorrow when they take a trip to Wessex League Hamworthy United, kick-off 3pm.
It will be familiar ground for Lions' fans as they were regular opponents not so long ago and their County Ground is one of the more comfortable and welcoming. Then on Tuesday they have a trip to Sussex County League Wick FC, kick-off 7.30pm before a match closer to home on Thursday when they begin their Dango Tournament campaign up at New Street, against Whitchurch United, kick-off 7.30pm.
l On Tuesday, Andover unveiled their new strip which, from the front, attracted a few admiring glances, while from the rear, will attract nothing more than suicide notes from the press and tannoy announcers around the Southern League. The hoped for back and red quartered shirts to celebrate the anniversary have not materialised, but the club have gone with a bright red with the sponsors logo in yellow.
Sadly, either the club or the local kit providers have plonked dark grey numbers on the back which are invisible in anything other than extreme sunlight, as was all too evident in the second half on Tuesday.
As league and cup rules state that clubs must provide clear and recognisable numbering, for the sanity of those who need to indentify players immediately without the use of night vision goggles, it must be hoped that the club return the shirts and request white numbering as is the norm.
