Youth league combine

The two main Saturday youth leagues in Hampshire, the Testway YFL and the Mid Solent YFL have joined forces to run an U18 league for season 2008/09.

The Testway League had five teams wishing to play at that level which was not enough to run a competitive league, so they enquired with other leagues to see if they had a similar problem. The Mid Solent were intending to run an U18 league but with only seven teams, by joining forces the prospect of running a successful league will now take place with 12 teams. Teams from the Testway League supporting the proposal are Phoenix, Upper Clatford, Southampton Arms Sports, Worthys and South Wonston Swifts. The league will be administered by the Mid Solent League with the Testway League introducing an U18's Invitation Cup.

Any other clubs interested should contact Roger Smith, secretary of the Testway YFL on 01264 737373.

This is hoped to be the first of many ties between to two league which will continue with inter league matches at all 11-a-side age groups during the coming season.

The Testway YFL, who held their 20 year anniversary last season, have recorded a record number of teams for the coming season with 147 entering at all age groups from U8 to U18s. With the changes in rules regarding U8's the league will be organising friendly matches for these teams and for the first time all other age groups will be formed into two divisions. The league covers a vast area from Wilton and Amesbury in the west to Basingstoke in the east and from Vernham Dean to Bishops Waltham and Lyndhurst in the south.

The league would like to thank sponsors Testway Housing, Aster Property Management and Bourne Valley Trophies for their support.
