Rose ends round four over
JUSTIN Rose has ended his first round at The Open with a score of four over par.
The 27-year-old was returning to Royal Birkdale 10 years after bursting on to the golfing scene with a fourth-place finish in The Open as a 17-year-old amateur.
On that occasion he holed a chip from 50 yards on the final hole to become a household name.
However, the going was tough for Rose on his return as he failed to record a single birdie during the opening 18 holes of this year's event.
The former Robert May's pupil dropped shots on the second and ninth holes, but it was a costly double bogey on the sixth that put his title bid in jeopardy at the turn.
However, a run of nine consecutive pars saw Rose reach the clubhouse with no further damage.
