Broomsquire Hotel managed to hold Bounty Rovers to a draw at the top of division one on Sunday, writes Tony Spencer, Ellis Howman maintaining the champions' unbeaten run. Bramley United went down in the opening minutes to a header from Southern Electric and it took a penalty converted by Jamie Ballantyne on 43 minutes to square the match before half-time; Bramley then netted a 30 yard screamer before Stuart Woods in a one-on-one beat the keeper with a chip. Bramley keeper Mattie Powell made some cracking saves after the Sparks pulled a goal back.

6:40pm Wed 17 Sep 08
Bounty Rovers won their second division one game in a row, scoring thrice in a close encounter with Basingstoke Royals for whom Craig Barker replied with a brace. Broomsquire Hotel registered a victory in their opening match, Gary Hicks starting the scoring with a lofted shot, Steven Burgess got the second, Anthony Smith on the right blasted into the top right hand corner, Gary Hicks made another chip from 25 yards and Anthony Smith netted a second. Southern Electric responded with goals by Stuart Jarvis, Chris Woods and an own goal. Brookvale also opened their account with a win, to beat Bramley United. 'Vale's first goal hit the post and went in off the keeper, then they added a second, Adam Hill was taken out in the box and Jamie Ballentyne converted to pull Bramley back to 2-1, but found themselves 3-1 down by the break. Rob Moony got Bramley's second after good work by Stuart Woods and Sam Nichols; but Ben Nichols netted four goals and Dale Bristow one to take the points for 'Vale. The game was held up for 25 minutes due to a serious injury to 41-year-old veteran Wayne Barber who suffered what appeared to be snapped Achilles. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to him.
Division One title would go to the wire,
3:47pm Wed 16 Apr 08
Red Rose ensured the division one title would go to the wire, beating leaders Bounty Rovers, taking a two-goal lead through Richard McCoubrie's brace one of which was a penalty, before Steve Bloomfield pulled one back in the second half; Red Rose soaked up plenty of pressure from Bounty who couldn't quite carve out the equaliser they wanted. Basingstoke Royals kept up their challenge with a victory away at Brookvale. Rangers fell behind to Inter Tadley following a first half corner, driven low and hard by Tyrone Aldridge, Robbie Perrett ran onto the ball unmarked and fired into the roof of the net; Andy McCreadie scored for Rangers but this very competitive game was settled by another corner hit hard and low which was steered into his own net by a Rangers defender.
Winterthur taken all the way by Berg
3:47pm Wed 16 Apr 08
The Bernard Cornish Cup Final between AFC Berg Reserves and Winterthur was played at Winklebury. The rain let up and kept away for most of the first 90 minutes, and the pitch held up well. Winterthur attacked from the start, forcing early pressure with a succession of corners, French denied a good chance when O'Brien smothered the ball on the edge of his area. Berg played with ten men for a few minutes while Roberts' head injury was swathed in bandages. Woodhouse fired from distance but again O'Brien saved. Berg's best chance came from Jane on 21 minutes, his shot held at the left hand post by Skirving. Dickins also tested Skirving and the greasy ball squirmed out of his gloves, but he managed to grab it again before Burt got his foot in. After about 40 minutes Dickins' shot from eight yards was deflected for a corner, from which Pat Hartwell chipped over the bar at the near post. Near the end of what had unexpectedly turned out to be a very even first half, Kelly crossed to Barlow, whose delicate header found Curtis in a shooting position, where he had strayed offside. A foul on Burt gave Berg a late chance to take the lead, but James Hartwell's drilled shot was denied by the post.
