Premier division kicks off
THE pick of Saturday's premier division matches, where nine clubs will be competing, must be at Sherborne Road, where FC Censo, previously known as AFC Sleepers, take on last season's runners-up Rangers.
Censo manager Barry Graves fancies his side's chances after pre-season victories against Basingstoke Royals, Riverdene and Sandhurst Reserves.
Rangers manager Andy McCoombs feels his squad is good enough, with Red Rose centre-back Lee Head an addition. He has also recently signed Alex Franklin, who played for him two seasons ago.
"We lost four times to Sleepers last season and I am looking to turn this around this time," said McCoombs.
Champions R and B Sports are at Brighton Hill and, although manager Paul Hook's movements are restricted following leg surgery, new assistant Dean Sawyer will be with him to oversee events.
AFC Aldermaston A are their first opponents, but the Aldermaston third team may not be as strong as last season because of the departure of players with Terry Rooney. Stuart Jones and Gary Bone will be looking after the Aldermaston team.
The Oakley Athletic first team will have no problem fielding a team to play Winterthur at Newfound.
The excellent record in the Sunday League of Wayne Barlow's newcomers should mean new Oakley manager Micky Lund, returning from Overton United, will have a tough baptism.
Tadley Calleva Reserves have returned to the league and Bramley United are the visitors to Barlows Park.
The Tadley second team will be managed by Lee Jeffery and Alan Hibbs and, when I visited their impressive new ground recently, the pair were very excited about their prospects.
Jeffery said Anthony Smith, Ashley Jones and Shaun Dallimore have been retained from Tadley A and Bradley Nash and Jamie West have joined from Broomsquire Hotel.
