Police chase ended in a three car smash
AN investigation is under way after a police chase that ended in a three car smash in Southampton last night.
The collision, that left two people in hospital, happened shortly after officers travelling in a marked car tried to pull over the driver of a Renault Clio car in the Woolston area of the city.
The car failed to stop and a pursuit followed which is said by police chiefs to have lasted around three minutes.
The Clio then collided with a red Toyota Previa waiting at the traffic lights on Royal Crescent Road at its junction with Canute Road.
The Toyota went into the back of a red Ford Mondeo which was also stationary.
The driver of the Clio, a 31-year-old Southampton man, and the front seat passenger, a 29-year-old woman, were taken to Southampton General Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, GBH and failure to stop.
A man and two women in the Ford were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
No police officers were injured in the incident which happened at around 8.30pm.
A Hampshire police spokesman confirmed the force's professional standards department was involved and have notified the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Sergeant Rob Heard at the Totton Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Don't panic - I saw a fleet of brand new Bobby cars in convoy the other day, probably going to have bull bars fitted.

So the yobs in the car being chased got hurt, so what's to investigate other than what can be done to make it fatal.
Sounds like plod almost got it right for once and nearly rid Southampton of some scum.

No excuse for scum like that. They could quite easily have killed someone.
Plus my journey home last night was longer! pffffft

Has anyone at the echo got their journalism qualifications? Probably not, let's hope the driver's solicitor hasn't seen this as he'll probably get off.
Christoff, keep up, nobody was arrested for theft!

I love the way that 'Natty'- the chav; thinks that the Clio (driven by some other chav's) is a fast car..that is sooo funny. I s'pose that if you drive a Saxo,a Clio is one-up-man-ship!! Even if you do have blue lights on your wind screen wipers.
No point banging them up though..just make sure they do proper community service..other than the community service they will have to do to claim their dole money of course!
They could build an ice rink!
