Attack leaves man with fractured eye socket and cheekbone

A MAN was set upon by a trio of young thugs outside a Basingstoke social club.

The 38-year-old victim was left with a fractured eye socket and cheekbone and is currently receiving treatment at Basingstoke hospital.

The man was attacked by three men in Watson Way, near to the Wellington Social Club and bus stop in Winklebury, between 9.40pm and 9.50pm on Thursday, August 21.

Detectives have issued descriptions of two men they would like to speak to.

Both are described as of mixed race, aged in their 20s at about 5ft 10in.

One of the men was of medium build and the other has a shaved head.

Detective Constable John Hood, of Basingstoke CID, said: "This was an isolated incident that happened during the evening when other people would have been around.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the Winklebury underpass near to the bus stop and may have witnessed the assault.

"Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time is urged to contact police as soon as possible."
