REVIEW: Live music at the Light Lounge

THEY said that it wouldn't happen and that it couldn't be done, but it looks like they will have to think again.
A normally quiet Sunday evening was to be transformed into a raging storm as three local metal bands took to the stage.
First up and second time in Basingstoke was the Newbury quintet Terrorart. A pleasure to be seeing these guys again, I was impressed, but I like to be sure.
They started playing to a smallish crowd, but as their set unfolded, the numbers grew. The crowd liked what they saw and heard, and I agreed with them wholeheartedly.
They were followed by In the Absence of Light from Swindon, who, unusually for a metal band, sported a female bass-player. They won the crowd over instantly by announcing onstage, "We's a hip-hop band from New Jersey, but for one night only, we's a metal band!" and then proceeded to tear our ears off with some no-nonsense brutal metal. Vocalist Danny also caused much amusement by using his radio mic to leave the stage and actually vacate the venue completely whilst still singing his heart out. Amazing band.
Headline slot went to Killbaby who are a joint Basingstoke/Newbury band. They were also metal, but it is a diverse genre and their style was different again from what had gone before. By now, the place was packed and up front a select few were head-banging much to the delight of the band. As ever, the only heavy thing about the night was the music, the crowd remained good-natured to the end - nice one.
