Basingstoke Live back from July 11-13
The Heliosphere, which will be in War Memorial Park on the Friday night
The Heliosphere, which will be in War Memorial Park on the Friday night

FREE music festival Basingstoke Live returns for its second year from July 11 to 13.

Bigger and better, it will be jam-packed with an exciting mix of live performances from local, national and international acts.

Headline performers on the main stage will include the legendary cockney duo Chas and Dave and Neville Staple (ex-The Specials).

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have teamed up with local music promoters and Anvil Arts to stage three days of entertainment.

The live action kicks off on the Friday when Anvil Arts bring some of the world's top street performers to the borough for Be Amazed.

This day of free events around Basingstoke town centre brings music, comedy, acrobatics and lots of silliness - all suitable for the whole family to enjoy. From 12noon and right through the afternoon, some of the world's top street performers will amaze you with their colourful performances, zany acts and slapstick routines. In the evening from 7pm, at War Memorial Park, enjoy live music from a specially-formed band, and more amazing performers, leading up to the stunning appearance of the incredible Heliosphere.

A huge helium-filled balloon appears out of the dusk, rising and falling to a wistful musical soundtrack as its aerialist tumbles and turns with balletic grace and beauty. The spectacle will inspire, mystify and amaze the audience.

On Saturday and Sunday, War Memorial Park will transform into a giant music arena, packing in a main stage and two large music tents - the 100 per cent Tent and the Sunrise Stage - catering for all ages and all musical tastes.

Saturday's entertainment will run from 1pm to 10.30pm and the line-up on the main stage will include Neville, The Lucky Pennies and Revenue.

A programme of dancers and music from all over the world will also feature as part of Fairfields' WorldBeat. On Sunday, the main stage will welcome Chas and Dave, Jodie Steele and The Idol Machine.

The event will also feature a funfair, catering and street theatre, and, in the run-up to Basingstoke Live, a week-long schedule of performances at fringe events in venues across the borough will be held.

A full line-up will be released shortly.
