Country retreat is one glorious gem
AN ATMOSPHERIC thatched cottage offers a country retreat in its tucked-away location near the village of St Mary Bourne.
The hamlet of Edbury, described as one of "Hampshire's hidden gems" by Strutt & Parker, is where Downhams Cottage can be found.
Surrounded by open countryside, the original part of the modernised cottage (pictured) dates back to 1760 and is being sold with a newly-built detached garage and hobby room.
A partly-vaulted sitting room leads through to a garden room and the dining room features original oak beams and a fireplace inset with a wood-burning stove.
A cottage-style kitchen is fitted with Shaker units, with marble worktops, and a limestone floor.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a vaulted ceiling, and an adjoining bathroom.
Shrubs and aromatic herb borders are planted in the garden, which has a sunken paved area for outdoor seating.
Strutt & Parker describes Downhams Cottage as "enchanting" and its rural setting as "glorious".
