World of action

"TURNED out nice again" was the catch- phrase of British entertainer, likeable but unlikely, film star and avid motorcycle enthusiast George Formby.

It was a saying that summed up this year's Beaulieu Motorcycle World which took place over the weekend.

A little rain did dampen the showground on Sunday morning, but quickly blew over for the visitors to carry on enjoying the spectacle in the arena and the static displays around the grounds.

The race' track surrounding the arena allowed riders to wring the throttles more than you'd imagine, for a series of display rides by amateurs, keen enthusiasts, and stars from the racing world showed visitors what classic and modern bikes were capable of.

A treat for the eyes and ears of anyone with even the slightest interest in bikes - a must for petrolheads.

Like many of the visitors I was taking the chance to relax while enjoying the freestyle MotoX tricks as the two Awol Streetryderz sailed 40 feet above the ground between jump ramps - when suddenly we were watching a back flip!

Fortunately, being a consummate pro, I was able to jam my ice cream between my teeth and grab my camera in time, but my colleague summed up the amazing feat with "you did get that, didn't you?"

I did, but my teeth ached for ages!

The Hairy Bikers are hard workers, they didn't seem to stop (apart from a visit to the bar on Saturday night) and kept crowds entertained with cooking displays as well as riding two of Joey Dunlop's race bikes - lucky, lucky, lads!

Thanks to all for a great show - especially the track marshals without whom the riding would not take place.

For your information, the AWOL Streetryderz are, as the name suggests "Sreet Riders". They perform their stunts at street level. The guys doing the flying were the FMX UK team. Perhaps it might be an idea to watch from the side of the arena, and not the beer stall if you want to see what's happening!
