Awe's fleet of electric vehicles replaces the old diesel ones

A FLEET of bright orange vehicles will be spreading a green message as they drive around the area's Atomic Weapons Establishment sites.

It is estimated that the new electric vehicles, which produce no emissions, will help AWE, which has sites in Aldermaston and Burghfield, lower its carbon footprint by around 25 tonnes of C02 per year.

AWE's facilities services partner EMCOR has purchased eight of the vehicles, four trucks and four cars, which will be used for on-site deliveries and as escort cars, replacing older diesel-fuelled models.

Gareth Beard, AWE's environment chief, said: "These new vehicles are clean and have the potential to be powered by a diverse range of low-carbon energy sources.

"Our on-site services partner EMCOR has made a positive step in the right direction."
