Shopping centre bags eco award
BASINGSTOKE'S main shopping centre has been recognised for its efforts to be environmentally-friendly by winning a national award.
Festival Place has scooped a 2007 Green Apple Award for the Environment. The entry featured the centre's introduction of a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), and its recycling programme, in which the centre separates dry recyclables, general waste and food and liquid waste - significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Jane Stewart, marketing manager at Festival Place, said: "The team here have worked incredibly hard to get this project off the ground."
Green Apple Awards are given annually by the Green Organisation, an independent environment group that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice.
